Welcome to my colourful gourmet world at the La Mauny distillery

About me…

I am Prisca Morjon, a blogger, television presenter and French West Indian self-taught chef. I love my island and our culture. Since 2012, I share our local heritage in my cooking workshops in La Mauny.

I grew up in the kitchen of the family restaurant without ever envisaging making cooking my profession. I studied Communication and International Marketing in Montpellier and worked in Bordeaux. However, my passion for cooking never left me. I cherished the flavours of my childhood. I cooked dishes made by my grandmother, an excellent cook and admirable maman créole. This period shaped my cooking; it became both creative and very respectful of the authentic taste of local produce.

When I returned home, I started my blog, the first of its kind in Martinique. Success was immediate although totally unexpected! I promote our gastronomic know-how to enable people to discover our authentic recipes and our culinary influences, that is, to give an insight into our West Indian art de vivre that is so close to my heart.

About my workshops in La Mauny…

I am glad to welcome you to a moment of discovery in Rivière Pilote in Martinique. We shall cook together in a fully-equipped outside kitchen, set in the heart of the Creole garden of the historical plantation.

I shall share with you some little stories of life in Martinique while cooking a full menu (first course, main course, dessert) using fresh seasonal produce carefully selected: various French West Indian aperitifs, creative soup, traditional fritters, curries served with local vegetables, coconut panacotta, banana tatin, and crumble with local flours (specify if vegan or gluten free dish is wanted). You will be given the recipes for the workshop.

You will savour my authentic and fine Creole dishes under a shady awning. A tasting of rums and homemade cocktails will add further warmth to the atmosphere.

About La Mauny

Authenticity is the key word of the Maison La Mauny. A visit of the distillery is included in the day’s activities. It is the last distillery still operating in the south of island using our ancestral know-how.

Discover the town of Rivière Pilote

You should take a walk after your Creole lunch. Discover the town of Rivière Pilote: its church, its cemetery full of glowing colours and its streets with names that remind you of its rich history. Rivière Pilote has a very special soul that will not fail to move you. To end your day with a flourish, profit from the sunset on the nearby Anse Figuier beach, just five kilometres away. Don’t forget your swimsuit!

My Creole Cooking workshops are well listed in several guides, including Lonely Planet, Viator and Trip Advisor... here are some comments :

“What a wonderful day - My family and I greatly enjoyed the cooking class and the time we spent with you. You are a very interesting person which made the cooking class all the more interesting. I hope we are able to do it again at some point in the future, it was pretty special... something we will remember forever. ” Ricky

“Thank you for our class - We really enjoyed our cooking class with you. I am going to have to try making some poulet colombo now that we are home ! Thank you again. We hope to come back to Martinique and take another class from you.” Nanci & Steve

“This was one of our favourite activities we booked in Martinique. We were supposed to have another person in our group, but they never showed, so it was just friend, Prisca, and myself. The workshop was conducted in French ☺, and Prisca really made us feel welcomed in learning about food and culture in Martinique. With Prisca guiding us through some traditional family recipes, we made a 3 course meal that included Accras, Colombo Chicken with Basmati rice and vegetables, and a panacotta-type dessert served with nut caramel candies and tea. It was a very hands-on experience that we very much enjoyed. After the workshop, we ate our meal and then had a tour of the Rum Distillery (La Mauny). We were very grateful in trying some very authentic, homemade creole dishes. Merci beaucoup à Prisca!” Sonia

“My boyfriend and I took your cooking class last week at La Mauny. We had such an amazing time and we would love to get the recipes for everything we cooked with you! We went to that spice store near the airport that you suggested so we have the Columbo spice blend :). We also ended up getting engaged at the beach we went to after your class! Thanks for the amazing memories that we will cherish for years to come.” Meredith
